There's no way you just know a guy. When the hell did you have time to make friends?

[Let him take a stick, he'll clean up the other half.]

They're my dad's friends.

[If Gold's grabbing a stick, he's pulling all the balls together and starting a fresh game.]

[Oh. Personal connections. Must be nice.

[He got to talk to DJ Mary!!!!!]

Just don't do it again.

[He's still a little sore about the whole thing. But once everything's set up, he backs up; he'll let Gold go first.]

No promises. It's not like you've got any reason to run off again.

[That he knows of. Let's see, a nice break, get them balls scattered and aim to peg stripes; they're his favorite.]

I didn't think you knew how to play pool, but that don't matter -- I'm taking you down anyway.

[Gold doesn't get a lot of friends up here that can. It's hard to be so practiced and good at it and not have anyone to one up.]

I play it with dad sometimes. He's way better at it than me, though.

[He says, and immediately knocks a striped ball into the hole.]

Stripes your favorite or something?

[Are you gonna sink some more or can he get a shot in, thanks.]

They were better set up. What's the point in having a favorite?

[Nope, he's sinking another. The third hit doesn't go in, though, so it's all Gold.]

[Thank goodness.]

Some people just have favorites. Ones that're lucky to them, and ones that just don't go in the damn hole no matter how well they're set up.

[Exhibit A, shown here. Gold crinkles his nose and waves his stick.]

They've got somethin' against me.

[Silver's hit doesn't go in either, so at least they both suck.]

You can hit them just fine in battle. Why not here?

I'm waaay more focused when I'm battling.

[His does sink this time, and he grins lightly as he goes for another and knocks two in as a straight shot; the next time's a dud and he clicks his tongue.]

Guess I'm just more relaxed when I'm playin' around like this. They're different. I get lucky.

...You should be as focused as you are when you battle. What's the point in doing something if you don't put in your all?

[He gets another ball in this time, and sets up another to be hit in later.]

Just to have fun. You ain't gotta be so serious all the time if you're around friends.

[You know he's gonna mess up that set up shot when he can, right.]

...It wouldn't be fun to battle you if you didn't take it seriously.
