Soooo in the future! Hilda managed to woo Silver and keep him for more than a week.

When Hilda's about 26 and Silver's 24, she's finally got him doing more "couple"-like things with her.

How'd you find Gyarados, daddy?

[Story time, story time!]

[...Uh-] He was at the Lake of Rage in Johto, and the leader of all the other Magikarp and Gyarados. He was a lot bigger than the rest of them and the only one that was red.

Someone was hurting him, so he got angry and started rampaging. The other Gyarados started rampaging along with him. I didn't want anyone to get hurt, so I caught him. The rest of the Gyarados calmed down when I did.

He grew really close to me because I helped ease his pain. My best friend helped me catch him, so Gyarados is really fond of him too. [That's... That's the not Team Rocket version. Yes. Blue doesn't need to know about Team Rocket- at least not now.]

Whoaaa! Of course you made him feel better, you're really good with bumps and scrapes and stuff too.

Who's your best friend?

[He is a grown man, his face will not turn pink from praise from his daughter- nope.]

His name's Gold. He's the one who gave me these goggles. [He holds them up a little from on his neck. They're one of the most important items he has.] We were rivals and had a lot of crazy adventures together along with our other best friend Crys. They were a big brother and little sister to me.

It's been a long time since I've seen them. [How long has it been? Fourteen... Y...ears...

He's... He's old...]

I'd like to introduce you and Barett to them one day, but they're somewhere really far away. Even I don't know how to find them.

I'll help you find him! When I go on my adventures I'll go find him.

[Be smiles brightly, but it doesn't quiet match his eyes. He doesn't have the heart to tell her that it's probably impossible. There's one way he can think of, but he doesn't want it to happen. Ever. He's got his kids to look after, his little brothers and sister- he needs to be here.]

We have a big family too! Grandma and grandpas and my aunt and uncles, there's a lot of people in our family!

Yeah. We're a big happy family. We've all got each other. [And that makes them the best family in the world.]

[The Dude is laying down all relaxed and stuff, and Barett's leaned up against him. He's got that drought vulpix in his arms, making for a warm, relaxing temperature in the backyard.]

[It really is nice out here. He comes over to check on Barett, but he makes sure to be quiet about it. If he fell asleep, he doesn't want to wake him up.]

[Barett stirs, and sits up when he sees Silver.]

Hi, dad. Are you gonna sit with me?

[-Whoops--]

Yeah. I didn't wake you up, did I? [Regardless, after acknowledging The Dude Arceus with a bow of his head, he goes to sit next to him.]

[Barett eagerly scoots over so he can lean on Silver!]

Nope, I wasn't asleep yet. I was listening.

[Yes. Come here, Barett. We can sit and... relax... and be comfortable together.]

Listening? [To what? That's a pretty broad statement...]

Yeah. There's a lot going on.

[It doesn't seem like it on first glance, obviously, but there's the typical sound of just... life. Wind, bugs, trees, and of course the Pokémon breathing slowly and relaxed.]

I like this better.

[A lot... Oh. Oh. He takes a second to relax and just... Listen. To take in what he's often too preoccupied to miss.]

...Towns and cities are nice, but I like having somewhere calm and peaceful to return to. Somewhere not so molded by people.

[For a moment, he's reminded of Moro. Then of home, when he was little. Then of exploring Unova...]

You like this better than running around, huh?

[He quiets, for a second, looking guilty.]

I should do what they tell me, but... I don't like it.

...I can't do anything to help you if you just don't like it. Everyone's gotta do things they don't like sometimes. That's part of growing up.
