Soooo in the future! Hilda managed to woo Silver and keep him for more than a week.

When Hilda's about 26 and Silver's 24, she's finally got him doing more "couple"-like things with her.




It's a good thing they're a somewhat decent age to be parents?

Maybe? He might be working, but if he's working in the tunnel, you won't have to actually challenge the gym.

Okay, okay... we'll ask around.

[And Barett will lead, even if he's slow as anything. He puts Ninetales away and lets out his Deino to waddle with them, since Deino is a lot more comfortable with caves and digging and ground types.]

He pulls out his Pokédex only to hear a nice big No data available. Thank you, Pokédex.

It sounds quadrupedal, and it's a little shorter than a Sneasel in height...

Would it be okay if he offered it his hand?]

[Barett rarely has swift reaction time, but he grabs Silver's hand just as the Deino snaps at it.

He doesn't care if he freaks Silver out and gets him mad he just saved your fingers, yo]

[...Y...es, thank you, he kind of needed that hand.

But he's pretty calm and casual about it.]

Is it not very friendly? [Boy why you tryin' to bite me]

[Thank goodness for that, at least. Barett sighs.]

He's blind, so if something comes too quickly at his face, he'll bite it. Sorry.

In that case, he'll duck down to its level and offer up his "hand" again- this time it's his forearm more than his hand- and he'll wait for this new weird Pokémon to approach him instead of the other way around.]

[It smells Silver, and moves closer to get a better whiff. It starts biting on Silver's arm, which is still fairly hard biting, but it's trying to be gentle and probably won't leave anything worse than some light bruising. Doesn't taste like prey and it's not being aggressive like a predator, so it just grumbles and "gums" on Silver's arm for a few minutes until Barett offers a tasty-smelling snack to distract it.]

They can bite your fingers off if you're not careful, but he's getting better about being gentle...

Not any more at risk of losing my hand than I was with Feraligatr when he was just a Totodile.

[The biting hurts, yes, but he hardly flinches and lets it get a feel for him without a complaint.]

I can't see either, buddy. Maybe we can get along.

He's gotten familiar with you, and it'll only help if you give him treats. You can pet him if you're slow on the approach.

[He'll place some jerky in Silver's hand, which immediately gets Deino's attention. The chubby little greedy dragon...]

He slowly offers over the food with his palm flat and angled; no resistance here. No need to gnaw on him. Right?]

[Nope, Deino is totally familiar with taking food out of hands without biting! The dragon gobbles it up greedily, chomping loudly. But he also bends his head down to get pets.]

He's called a Deino. He's a dragon-and-dark type; they live in caves, usually. They like to eat.

Caves must give them an advantage since it's so dark anyway.

[Sorry Deino, he kind of has to get his hand in your face to feel his way up to your head. At least he's soft about it.

Pet pet! A Dark/Dragon type...

Somewhat, at least. But even in the wild, they're very clumsy. They just lash out at anything that moves and assumes it's prey.

...I can't blame them. I've done my fair share of fumbling around.

My Deino is a lot gentler, even if he is still pretty dangerous if you're not paying attention. I asked him to come with me because he was the kind of Pokémon that really scared me...

[Aggressive, quickly so, and unpredictable. Barett was quite scared of such things, but being his father's son (and mother's son) he conquered his fears through keeping them close.]

[Nevermind the fact that he just agreed to come with you, which is pretty cool on its own]

He was really unpredictable, and I've always been uncomfortable with anybody or anything that lashes out. [Ah hah hah...

But he'll admit being frightened of his father now and then, in those rare moments.]

He sensed me, and without any warning, attacked me. That was scary. But I didn't want to have that fear, so I spent a few days giving him food and getting closer.
