Soooo in the future! Hilda managed to woo Silver and keep him for more than a week.

When Hilda's about 26 and Silver's 24, she's finally got him doing more "couple"-like things with her.




It's a good thing they're a somewhat decent age to be parents?

Lemme know if that works out. Though if you took my calmness I'd really start to wonder what'd happen to me afterward. [hilbert without calmness is like...... i can't even think that far.]

[Her hands find a place on her hips, looking standoffish as much as she can. Hilbert well knows this ruse.]

I'm nothing but nerves and for the first time ever I wish I was a little more like you!

Hey, hey. It'll be fine. I know it's not fun to get worked up, but you can overcome it. [He can say that much with certainty.]

Nerves have their place, too. It makes sense that you're nervous, it gets you t'pay attention. This is the beginning of a big change, right? Everyone gets nervous with this kinda stuff, with good reason. [except you, hilbert, you anomaly.] Since it's new t'ya and all. But I'm pretty sure you can handle a curveball or two like this one.

That makes sense, but how do you even stay so relaxed anyway? Don't you get even the least bit worried about anything? How do you even handle that?

[Shrug.] Practically runs in the family. My parents're like this too.... I dunno, there's that saying... "worryin' doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it only empties today of its strength." So I try not to. Too much.

I've got nervous about a couple'a things, but... [Not that many. SHRUG.]

So if I want to not worry, I should just focus on what's happening right now? That sounds kind of hard, with having a kid... you always have to worry about what's coming next, right?

Yeah, but you also have to focus on what they're doin' right then, don'tcha?

I heard parenting ends up being a whole lotta improvisation. There's no way you can predict everything, so just do your best and don't freak out about things y'can't control. Plus you have Silver, an' me, and Silver's and my an' your family... so you oughtta be able to spread out the responsibility to worry a bit anyway.

[Hilda's quiet for a long while, tugging her cap down and thinking... thinking...

...Her expression starts twisting, since she's trying to keep to herself, but...]

Do... do you think I'll be a good mom? Or, what if I'm too rough...

[She's really terrified, but she's trying to whisper all this, since she only wants to share it with Hilbert.]

Hilda.... [He reaches up to gently hold her arms just below the shoulders in a comforting gesture.] You're gonna be fine, okay? You'll be a loving hard-ass mom. You're concerned over how you'll do an' that means you'll really look out to be a good parent. I know you'll do great.

B-but, what if I hurt it? I'm, I'm not really a gentle lady or whatever! I punch first and ask questions later, it's bad!

You aren't gonna punch a baby, are you? Give yourself more credit'n that. [sfdffgh that is an overreaction]

Look. Since when haven't you risen to the occasion before? This might be kinda different but I haven't seen you fail yet. And c'mon, tons of people raise kids all the time. I don't see how you can't do it too. And you aren't alone, so it isn't like you'll totally be in the dark to begin with. Right?
