Before we go, you've gotta answer a question. Both of you.
[He's told them time and time again about Pokémon. About the bonds and love and trust. They've grown up in a household filled with family and Pokémon alike.
But he still needs to hear it in their own words.]
[Barett, though, stays quiet for a little while. It almost looks like he wasn't paying attention, before he eventually speaks up in what is almost a whisper,]
My friends.
[He'd say more, but he's not one for words, really!]
[And answers that are very like them. He gives them both some reassuring hair ruffles before pulling a Pokéball off of his belt.]
Who wants to go first? [In theory he could probably help out both of them at once, but their personalities are very different and he wants to give them both his full attention, so. One at a time.]
[Blue takes off, running up and peering into the trees. She ignores the Pokémon running through the grass, and stares, trying to find a sleeping murkrow, so she could have a crow just like daddy's Honchkrow.
It takes a good while, as she rejects the handful she does see... until...]
Daddy! Daddy look, I want that one!
[It's pretty easy to see which one she means. It's a scraggly little guy, looking a little thinner and weaker compared to the more camouflaged flock. After all, prey tends to notice the hot pink.]
[Alright, alright. He offers her the Pokéball he's been holding this entire time- It's Kingdra's ball.
He speaks in a hushed tone.]
You can borrow Kingdra and battle with her. [Aaand he shuffles through his bag until he pulls out a couple of Pokéballs for her! Empty Friend Balls, just for her.]
Once you've weakened it, try throwing a Pokéball at it. Hit its hat, if you can.
Would you like me to show you how to catch a Pokémon, or do you want to try it on your own?
Alright, alright. He watches her battle and takes note of the decisions she makes- man, she really is gonna be a tough trainer when she's older. She's just like her mom.
Well, he won't get anything done like this. What's a Pokémon nearby?...
...Yes. Yes, that'll do. There's a nearby Swablu, and Silver's going to take advantage of it. It won't hurt her ride if he's not directly teaching her, right?]
Alright Weavile, Icy Wind! Restrict its movement! [Take it nice and slow, so she can see what he's doing. The variation Weavile uses this time is ice generated from his claws- he uses it to slash at Swablu's wings and freeze them. ...Gently. They don't want to immediately knock the poor thing out.
Down goes the cloud bird, but it's not out yet. Still, shivers and hesitates to move around.]
[There we go, now she can toss friend balls at the drowsy bird! And hey, she catches it, after a couple tries. She runs over, grabbing it and running back to Silver.]
[But it's time to focus on his daughter. She caught her very own first Pokémon.]
You did great, Blue. A lot better than I did when I caught my first Pokémon. [Instead of hair ruffles, he offers her a fist bump. He's really proud of her.]
[After a while, Silver might find a hidden grotto! It's been disturbed, and there's little shoe prints, so all signs point to Barett being in there.
And he is! He's quietly sitting down, cuddling with a vulpix. There's a warm ray of sunlight peering through the foliage, and it's pleasant and calm and quiet.]

What will your Pokémon be to you?

My teammates! I'm gonna make them strong and they're gonna make me strong, and it'll be fun!

[Barett just quietly sits by typhlosion, waiting his turn.]

Alright. C'mon. You can pick whichever one you like.

[She snatches Kingdra's PokéBall and runs over to the tree, letting the seahorse out.
She's got good battling instincts, at least! But she almost lets the murkrow run away before trying to throw a friend ball at it.
She doesn't have great aim, and she growls in frustration.]
Stupid thing, sit still!

...Oh. Oh! She gets it, now!]
Kingdra, use Yawn!
[There we go, now she can toss friend balls at the drowsy bird! And hey, she catches it, after a couple tries. She runs over, grabbing it and running back to Silver.]
Go, dad, go, catch your bird too!

Which means it's time to catch his own bird, so he tosses a spare Friend Ball at it (he came loaded with these, okay,) and...
...And he's caught a fluffy bird with his daughter.]

[She lets Murkrow out! Here, Murkrow, daddy brought Oran berries.]
This one's special! His feathers are as bright as my hair!
no subject
It fits, of course. He's very special Murkrow caught by a very special girl.

[She picks up Murkrow, who squirms a little to get comfortable but otherwise stares at its new trainer calmly, before Blue beams.]
Pinky! I wanna call him Pinky!
no subject
...Well, it does go well with his color.]
Just be gentle with Pinky. You two may have a bond now, but he still has to get used to you.

[Well, he's not next to typhlosion, that's for certain.]
