I can't open any of my Pokéballs, Rhyperior's holding onto your weapons, and we've got a long and pretty dangerous way to go.

I'm going to pickpocket someone in town for a little cash. We'll buy some and some Pokéballs, and then you're catching a Pokémon.

Or we can try to brave Mt. Mortar's caves or mountaintop alone and get trampled or probably starve. It's up to you.

Can't we get money without you stealing it?

Nope.

I've got nothing valuable that I can give up and I'd sooner drown in a frozen lake than ask the only person I know in this town for help.

Can't we just find a quick job from someone?

[feistytrader]

No. [What kind of temporary job would they even have the muscle or skills to do? Do people even give out temporary jobs?]

[mahouchrono]

And we can't just ask?

[feistytrader]

Do people normally give out jobs and cash where you're from?

[mahouchrono]

Jobs, yeah.

[Cash? Not really, but it was worth asking about.]

That's the second weirdest thing I've learned about your home.

[The first of course being the lack of Pokémon.]

It's normal for me.

And picking pockets and swiping food is normal for me.

[And with that, they exit the forested area, and the town is in sight.

You know. The town with absolutely no power. The sun is starting to set, but the town is completely devoid of any lights.

...Whoops...]

Is it normally this dark?

[feistytrader]

No. The power must be out because of that explosion.

[But he heads into town anyway- they've got nothing but danger surrounding them on all sides. They have to get some kind of supplies here.]

[... Let's hope this all goes well, then.]

[It's not too much trouble getting his hands on a wallet- he takes it out of some rich guy's pocket, so he doesn't feel particularly bad about it- and forgoes the Pokémon Center entirely in favor of getting enough food to last them to Ecruteak and a load of Pokéballs.

And just like that, they're heading straight out of town and to the next route, and Silver hands Ludger a Pokéball.]

Once you see a Pokémon you think you want to catch, just tell me. [Usually you'd need to weaken them first, but if they don't run into anything too tough, they can just hit its sweet spot.]
